When did you start your account?
We started it in March, 2019.
Why were you inspired to start an account?
We had been following @catcallsofnyc for some time and we felt inspired by the way they protested against street harassment.
Why do you think “chalking back” is a good method to raise awareness?
We think 'Chalking back' is a good method to raise awareness because when we chalk on the streets the chalks stay at least for 2-3 hours. People read the lines. They even look up our account and get to read the stories and see all the other chalks. As a result they become aware that this is a rising problem in our country. Also, it's a good method because it's not violent.
Why do you think ending street harassment is important?
We think ending street harassment is important because it is a huge problem worldwide. In our country a lot of parents don't send their daughters to school to study just because they are afraid that their daughters will get harassed on the streets. Girls cannot move freely because of this. They cannot go out in the dark. It shouldn't be like this. Street harassment needs to end.
What’s your favorite thing about your city?
Answer: If we don't count problems like street harassment and traffic jam, it's actually a beautiful city.
How can your city better address street harassment?
If all people protest against street harassment and if there is punishment for street harassment maybe it would solve this problem. Also, if anyone sees anyone being harass on the streets or in fact anywhere, they should stand by the victim and try to s
top the harasser. People should talk back.
What do you hope is the outcome of your account?
We hope some day street harassment stops in our whole country, not just city.
What does being a part of this campaign mean to you?
It means a lot to us. @catcallsofnyc is literally our idol. We're glad that we're a part of this movement. Knowing that we too have a hand in trying to stop street harassment feels good. Sometimes some people dm us saying they feel better after sharing their story. It feels great to know that we're able to help them and make them feel better.
