Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m Anouk and I’m 13 years old, I believe the youngest of the movement. I live in ‘s-Heerenbroek, The Netherlands, a village next to Zwolle. I’ll be in 9th grade(3 gymnasium) next year so I’m not specifically studying something yet but I plan on studying astronomy. I also dance in a semi-professional jazzdance team, something that means a lot to me. About two years ago I was a really big fan of Harry Potter, and crazy enough that’s where my feminist side came out. I always loved Hermione and of course her actress, Emma Watson. When I heard and saw more about Emma and her work I found myself relating to what she said. I researched and found out about feminism, which has now grown to a pretty big part of me!

Why were you inspired to start an account?
i had been a feminist for a while and when i found some other accounts i decided it was my time to take action and do something.
Why do you think “chalking back” is a good method to raise awareness?
it doesn’t hurt or offend anyone but still lots of people see it.
Why do you think ending street harassment is important?
It makes the victim feel violated and gross and it contributes to normalising rape culture.
what’s your favorite thing about your city?
The city does a lot to make it as ‘green’ as possible.
How can your city better address street harassment?
There could be talked about it in schools or a campaign started.
What do you hope is the outcome of your account?
Lots of people in and around Zwolle aware of the problem and willing to fight back.
What’s the most difficult street harassment situation you’ve experienced?
I haven’t really had a super difficult one, it’s mostly teen guys trying to be cool by yelling things at me.
What does being a part of this campaign mean to you?
It means a lot to me knowing I’m working with such a big group fighting this cause (and so many more) and it’s my way of letting the world know I’m a feminist who is not to be fucked with.
